Welcome to Alter, an eco-conscious, slow fashion brand dedicated to creating accessories using renewable and innovative sustainable textiles.

​Hello! I'm Monica, the founder, designer and maker behind Alter. I started the brand out of a passion for creating stylish, easy-to-wear accessories that are kind to animals and the planet.

 

Since 2020, I've been using renewable and innovative sustainable plant-based textiles throughout my collections. These textiles lead to far less waste than animal leather or plastic based leather alternatives (ie. PU, PVC), which means less landfill waste, lower energy consumption and a smaller environmental footprint. To further reduce the brand's impact on the environment, all items are either made to order or produced in small batches to avoid over production. 

 

The name Alter represents change and transformation. This idea is at the heart of the brand: challenging the norms of fashion and reshaping how we perceive waste by proving that discarded plant materials can be reimagined into something beautiful, functional and exciting.​

I handcraft each item with care and intention, using either a sewing machine or traditional hand stitching method. Each piece is lightweight, water-resistant, and thoughtfully made with sustainability in mind. My designs are modern and easy to wear - effortless styles for everyday life.

The brand started in London (UK), where it was originally based. I am now based in Madeira, Portugal and occasionally travel back to the UK for pop-up events.
